Fellow senior Jonathon McLaren took the ensuing kick, serving it into the box. Justin Tebben won the ball and flicked it into the air, and Connor Peck headed the game winner home.

A few minutes later, Lapeer earned a free kick. Gavin Hibbler took it, playing it right inside Brandon’s box. Josh Kenny found the ball midflight and headed it over the Blackhawk keeper.

LOSS 3-0

The Lapeer boys soccer team travelled to take on the reigning SVL champions Grand Blanc.

GB got on the board early with a beautiful strike from distance. Lapeer responded and earned three corner kicks. Josh Kenny won two head balls, the second was played to Jax Turner who whistled the volley just over the crossbar.

Play continued back and forth.

Just prior to half, GB served a ball into Lapeer's box that Lapeer misplayed and a GB forward tapped into the net to make it 2-0 at half.

The second half was exciting soccer to watch. Both teams exchanged opportunities to score, including sophomore Griffyn Fenner and Gavin Hibbler who both narrowly missed scoring a goal, and Josh Kenny heading a corner kick just over the crossbar.

Lapeer's back line of Dominic DePew, Connor Peck and Jax Turner defended well, keeping GB's shot total to only 4 in the second half.

Late in the game, with Lapeer pushing numbers forward, GB added a 3rd insurance goal.

WIN 1-0

Lapeer hosted West Bloomfield Thursday at Optimist Field 10.

The game was Lapeer’s annual “Bud Rowley Night” to honor former Lapeer soccer coach Dr. Duane “Bud” Rowley. There were multiple Rowley family members in attendance to watch the soccer action!

The game opened with West Bloomfield carrying much of the play.

Lapeer started freshman goalkeeper Caiden Hibbler in net for the first time, and he was up to the task! Standing tall, he made some key saves to keep the game scoreless at halftime.

In the second half, Lapeer was defending well and clearly frustrating the Lakers. Lapeer started creating quality opportunities to score as they moved the ball around. Sophomore Griffin Fenner drew multiple fouls, including two that resulted in yellow cards.

With 15 minutes to go in the game, Lapeer’s leading scorer, Joshua Kenny, hit a ball forward into the Lakers' box. The ball deflected around and somehow found its way into the opponent’s net.

That was all Lapeer needed as the defensive line of Ethan Redmond, Jax Turner, Dom DePew and Cohen Paril helped Hibbler earn his first shutout.

Lapeer hosts Davison on September 24. It is a make-up game from earlier in the year that was suspended due to an injury. It will be a Pink Out for cancer awareness game as well.

WON 3-1

Lapeer hosted Linden Thursday at Optimist Field.

Lapeer opened the scoring off a corner kick. Gavin Hibbler served the kick into the box and Jacob Bolte won it. It was headed outside the post when Griffin Fenner got to it and hit it home.

Linden stormed back and earned a penalty kick. Freshman goalkeeper Caden Hibbler dove and made the original save, but the rebound went to the Linden shooter, who tapped it home.

It was all Lapeer after that.

Senior defender Cohen Paril took a pass out of the back and hit a cross to an on-rushing Jonathan McLaren, who headed it over the Linden keeper. Soon after, Richie Fuller struck one into the net, but the play was ruled offside. Lapeer continued to pepper Linden’s net, but the score remained 2-1 at half.

In the second half, Lapeer held the majority of play, outshooting Linden 9-2. Late in the game, Justin Tebben was taken down in the box, earning a penalty. Tebben scored, making the final 3-1.

LOSS 1-0

Lapeer hosted SVL opponent Mt. Pleasant Oilers Monday night at Optimist Field.

Mt. Pleasant opened the scoring early in the first half. Freshman goalkeeper Caden Hibbler then made a couple big saves, including one diving save and another point blank save, to keep the score 1-0.

Sophomore defender Ethan Redmond also saved a goal by blocking a shot on the end line that would have scored.

Lapeer generated some quality chances through the midfield of Jonathan McLaren, Gavin Hibbler and Josh Kenny. That trio created a breakaway that the Bolts were unable to convert and two point-blank shots that the keeper saved to keep it 1-0 at half.

In the second half, Lapeer kept the ball and defended well. Senior defenders Jax Turner, Dom DePew, Cohen Paril and Ethan Redmond kept the Oilers at bay. Lapeer had multiple opportunities to score, including five free kicks in the offensive zone as well as five corner kicks.

With 10 minutes to go, Jax Turner hit a shot off the crossbar, but unfortunately, it bounced out.

WIN 3-1

Lapeer hosted cross-county and SVL rival Davison Wednesday at Optimist Field.

The game was a rematch from an earlier season battle that ended in a 1-1 tie. Lapeer was determined to have a better outcome.

As play kicked off, it was all Lapeer. The Bolts won ball after ball and pinned the Cards deep in their own end.

Just 10 minutes in, Jax Turner took a long throw for Lapeer. Joshua Kenny won it and hit it into the Cards net. Then 10 minutes later, it was Kenny again. This time, he took a pass from Gavin Hibbler and struck a ball from 22 yards out, beating the Cards' keeper.

Davison started fighting back. During a transition, Davison beat Lapeer down the field and scored to cut the lead in half. Jax Turner responded soon after for Lapeer as he won a ball just over midfield, took a touch, and hit his own banger from 30 yards out to make the score 3-1 at halftime.

The second half was more evenly played.

Caden Hibbler made five saves in net and the game ended 3-1 Lapeer.

Thursday is senior and youth soccer night.

WIN 3-2

Lapeer hosted Imlay City on Thursday for the final regular-season game in which the Bolts honored their nine seniors: Josh Kenny, Gavin Hibbler, Jax Turner, Dominic DePew, Cohen Paril, Tanzan Schwartz, Jacob Bolte, Jonathan McLaren and Hassan Fries.

It was also Youth Soccer Night with over 40 youth players on hand to watch the action.

When the game finally kicked off, Imlay City was the aggressor. They held the ball and pinned Lapeer in their own zone. Fortunately for Lapeer, freshman keeper Caden Hibbler was up to the task, making multiple saves to keep the Spartans off the board. As Lapeer dug in, play became more even.

It was fitting that on Youth Soccer Night, it was Lapeer’s younger players coming up big. Sophomore Richie Fuller served a free kick towards the Spartans far bar. Fellow sophomore Bentley Kiss won it and played it back to senior Gavin Hibbler who muscled the ball into the net to put Lapeer up 1-0.

In the second, it was again the younger players working hard to send their seniors out with a win. Keeper Caden Hibbler made a diving tip save off a Spartan free kick. Then he made a sliding save. Imlay earned a free kick just outside the Bolts box and after a nice serve, they won the first and second ball to even the score.

Soon after, Lapeer earned a penalty kick and the seniors decided to have Fuller take it. He made no mistake as he calmly slid the ball inside the post to make it 2-1.  Imlay wasn’t done and after another big save by Hibbler, Imlay converted their own PK to tie it up at 2-all.

It would be the sophomores stepping up again for Lapeer. Fuller took a corner kick that the keeper tipped. It came right to sophomore Ethan Redmond who hammered it at the net. Griffyn Fenner deflected the ball into the net for the game winner.

Lapeer ends the regular season 7-9-1 and will host Oxford for districts next Thursday, October 9, at Optimist Field.
