We had our first meet of the season on Wednesday, 8/27, when our team traveled to Swartz Creek for the Swartz Creek Relays.  I love having this be our first meet of the season, as it is a great way for our new swimmers to get used to the meet format, while never being behind the starting block by themselves.  This provides a great atmosphere to help them to get rid of the first meet nerves and jitters.  It is also a fun meet with unique relays that are not in a normal dual meet.  This meet had a total of 10 events for points and a bonus 11th event that was 3 Athletes plus one Coach; however, this event did not count towards points.  Each team was allowed to enter one relay team per event.  Athletes were allowed to compete in a maximum of 3 relays, not including the bonus 11th event relay.  The top 3 finishing relay team from each event also won medals.

There were a total of 55 athletes competing at this meet:  Brandon had 14, Kearsley/Lake Fenton had 17, Swartz Creek/Flushing had 12 and our team had 12.  Our team currently consists of 6 returning athletes (Alyssa Carter, Alicia Hoppe, Sophia Hoppe, Charlie Mahl, Berlin Sanchez and Ellerie Whitt) and 6 brand new to Swim & Dive (Piper Bolin, Mikayla Findora, Penelope Haggerty, Raelynn Harris, Jordyn Vanatta, and Catherine Wackler).  All of our teams have only had a maximum of 12 days to practice prior to this meet.  We took some baseline times last week to see where everyone was at.  Based on those times, our team has already achieved some very impressive time drops, with everyone dropping time!  I’m so proud of all of them and feel our team is off to a good start!  They brought home a total of 16 medals!  Congratulations Ladies!  I’m looking forward to having a fantastic season with you and can’t wait to see what you all do at our next meet agaist Bay City Central & Powers Catholic on 9/9.

Go Lightning!
