Catherine Benscoter playing golf for Lapeer West

Catherine Benscoter was a force on the golf course, being named a two-time First Team All-State golfer before graduating from Lapeer West High School in 2010.

Her senior year, Benscoter led the West team to an undefeated, first-place finish in the Flint Metro League, a first-place finish at the State Regional Golf Tournament and a seventh-place finish at the MHSAA State Finals.

“I’m proud of Catherine and how hard she works at her game,” said former girls golf team head coach Mike Ogg. “She is a great competitor, a great student, and a great person.”

A four-year letter-winner and three-year captain for the Panthers, Benscoter was also a three-time All-Flint Metro League First Team choice and won medalist honors at the regional tournament in 2008. She was a three-time medalist at the Flint Metro League Tournament and recorded twoCatherine Benscoter in a purple shirt top-10 finishes at the state championships. Benscoter helped West to regional titles in both 2008 and 2009, the first titles in school history.

She then earned an NCAA Division I scholarship to Northern Arizona University where she had the opportunity to compete, travel, and fully experience collegiate athletics.

"After one year, I returned home and ultimately had to step away from competitive golf while battling an illness, all while continuing my education," said Benscoter. "Following several years away from the game, I’ve gradually found my way back to golf. Today, I’m fortunate to still play and even give golf lessons for fun alongside my full-time career."

After returning to school and earning her MBA, Benscoter has had the opportunity to work for several incredible organizations, building a career in human resources.

Still, it's out on the links that Benscoter feels she's at her best.

"Golf has always been, and will always be, a defining part of my life and my story," she said. "I’m incredibly grateful to still be connected to the game I love and for the journey that has shaped both my personal and professional path."
