Lapeer High School is proud to announce that for the second year in a row, the Nipissing Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) has selected a Lapeer High School student.
Congratulations to Alexandra Bierbusse, a senior at LHS, who was selected to represent Lapeer High School by a group of teachers and counselors based upon the DAR qualities of citizenship which includes dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism.
After choosing to participate in the scholarship, Alex was chosen as the Nipissing Chapter Award winner. The scholarship contest consists of a personal statement and a written essay. She competed against other recipients in the area for the DAR Good Citizen Award and was awarded the local chapter award scholarship.
The award is presented under the DAR Chapter Good Citizens Committee Chair Sarah Gardiner. Alex will attend a meeting at a later date to receive the recognition.
The DAR Good Citizens Award and Scholarship Contest, created in 1934, is intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship. The award recognizes and rewards high school seniors who possess the qualities of good citizenship. This program is only open to students whose schools are accredited and in good standing with their state board of education. Only one student per year is honored as the school’s Good Citizen.
