Lightning Families –
We again want to convey our appreciation for your patience regarding school lunches.
Due to the state's failure to adopt a School Aid Budget as of today for the 2025-26 school year, we had communicated earlier this week that free lunches would no longer be offered as of Monday, October 6.
However, there does appear to be positive movement.
In the interest of lessening the financial burden of our families and not interrupting service should the budget be adopted in the coming days, we are announcing today that all lunches will continue to be free through next Friday, October 10, or until a School Aid Budget is passed and we receive regulatory guidance.
Breakfast will continue to remain free for all students. Free or reduced lunches will still be available for those families that qualify.
To prepare for what the future may or may not hold, we strongly encourage all families to complete the Free and Reduced-Price Meal Application as soon as possible using this link: https://lapeer.familyportal.cloud or by scanning the QR code at right.
We'll keep you updated as soon as a final decision is made by the state. Please know that our priority is ensuring every student has access to healthy meals each school day.
Please plan accordingly and consider pre-paying for meals if needed via PaySchools. Directions are below.
If you have any questions regarding meals, please contact Chell Alvis at michelle.alvis@lapeerschools.org or (810) 538-1648.
