8TH GRADE BASEBALL

April 17, 2026

The 8th Grade Bolts Baseball team broke out the brooms and swept Imlay City Friday with victories of 15-3 in the first game and 9-1 in the second game.

Ben Fleming went 3 for 3 in the first game with four runs batted in. Maverick Taylor also went 3 for 3, batting in two runs. Conner Kirby had three runs batted in on two hits, while Riley Tait had two hits and two runs batted in his two at bats.

The Bolts were thieves on the bases, stealing 10 in game 1. Alex LeClaire started the first game, throwing three innings, striking out six of the nine batters he faced.

In the nightcap, the Lightning had a SUPER-SOLID performance from Henry Franckowiak, pitching six innings and striking out 16, while only allowing three hits in the 9-1 victory. Franckowiak helped himself on the bump by going 2 for 3 at the plate, gearing a six-run rally in the third inning.

Maverick Taylor was once again a leader at the plate, going 2 for 2 with two runs batted in while Conner Kirby went 2 for 3 with three runs batted in.

Next up for our 8th grade Bolts Baseball team are the Cardinals from Davison next Tuesday at home.

April 21, 2026

The 8th grade Bolt Baseball team split the double-header with Davison on Tuesday, losing the first game 6-2 and winning the second game 6-1.

Our Lightning were patient at the plate in the first game, tallying 13 walks, three each from Creek Johnson and Maverick Taylor while stealing six bags, four by Johnson.

A great 4-6-3 double play in the top of the second inning immediately shut down the Cardinal threat of scoring. Alex LeClaire pitched three innings, allowing five hits and two earned runs in the loss.

In the second game victory, Henry Franckowiak kept the Cardinals in their nest, striking out nine batters over four innings, only allowing three hits. Taylor came on in relief, striking out two of his three batters faced.

The Bolts once again showed patience, walking 11 times, while Taylor racked up three more, keeping his season on base percentage at 1.000 (not being retired to this point).

The Lightning once again blew open the base paths, stealing seven more bags. Johnson, Conner Kirby, and Sawyer Bowker each had hits, while Franckowiak also helped himself by ripping a double into left-center field. Jonathan Miller's clutch infield ground-ball drove in a run at a key moment to light the fire under the Bolts in the 6-1 nightcap win.

April 28, 2026

Our 8th Grade Lightning came up with two more wins yesterday, beating the Cavaliers of Carman-Ainsworth 16-1 in the first game and 15-0 in the second game.

Spearheaded by Maverick Taylor's and Conner Kirby's doubles, the Bolts scored seven runs in the first inning and didn't look back.

Alex LeClaire aided in the scoring barrage in the bottom of the second inning, hitting a ground rule double into the Ozarks of left field that looked as if it was going to shatter a window in the Pines of Lapeer apartment complex (call Jake from State Farm and check your renters insurance policy, people).

Evan Groomes started the first game, allowing one run and striking out five batters. Ben Fleming came on in relief to shut down the Cavaliers fanning all three batters he faced.

Fleming got the start in the second game, continuing a masterpiece on the mound, striking out five of the six batters he faced, allowing no runs. Sawyer Bowker came on in relief, striking out two of the three he faced.

The Lightning once again had smoke coming out of their bats in Game 2, lighting up the Cavs with 10 hits. Triples by Taylor and Henry Franckowiak paced the Bolt bats. Taylor knocked in three runs, Franckowiak went 3 for 3 knocking in two, and Jonathan Miller went 2 for 2, with a two-RBI double that sealed the deal on the scoring for our Bolts.

Just when the Cavs thought they were going to get something going in the bottom of the third inning, Charlie Leonard snapped off a hot-shot line drive at his short stop position, putting a dagger in the Cavaliers.

April 29, 2026

The 8th grade Bolts took to the field again Wednesday, beating the Grand Blanc West Bobcats 17-5 in the first game and 13-0 in the nightcap.

In the first game, Ben Fleming drove in 4 runs on 3 hits, Conner Kirby, Sawyer Bowker, and Franckowiak each had multiple hits for the Bolts, allowing for them and their teammates to steal 20 bases. Franckowiak and Creek Johnson both stole the home bag while taming the Bobcats from the mound, striking out a total of 10 batters.

In the second game, the Lightning "struck" again, with Maverick Taylor blasting 2 home runs over the center-field fence, collecting 5 RBIs, and Franckowiak hitting a dinger to left-center, scoring 2 runs.

Their counterparts continued to run wild on the bases, stealing 8 more in the game, Johnson took the mound again striking out 6 more batters, while Kirby came on in relief striking out 2 more.

Overall this season, the Lightning have amassed a .415 team batting average, 86 walks, and 76 stolen bases while outscoring their opponents 93-17, committing only 1 error on the field, and striking out a total of 75 from the mound.

Franckowiak leads the pitching staff, striking out 28 batters, while Taylor is hitting .800 from the plate to lead the Lightning, who have 7 wins and only 1 loss.

May 12, 2026

The 8th grade Bolt Baseball team tied the Flushing Raiders in both games of their doubleheader Tuesday night, with a score of 2-2 in both games.

Maverick Taylor took the mound in the game 2 tie, striking out 8 batters in his 5 innings on the mound. Kirby again was a beast at the plate going 2 for 3 and knocking in both Bolt runs.

The Bolts will take on the Swartz Creek Dragons in the last away game of the season Wednesday night.

May 13, 2026

Our 8th grade Bolts Baseball team dropped both games to Swartz Creek last night, losing 2-0 and 6-5.

The Bolts lost the first game despite out-hitting the Dragons in a pitchers' duel. Creek Johnson, Ben Fleming, Maverick Taylor, and Jonathan Miller each had hits for the Bolts. Conner Kirby threw fireballs at the Dragons on the mound, striking out 7 batters in the first game.

Kirby continued his rampage on the mound in Game 2, striking out 7 more batters in 3 innings pitched. Johnson and Taylor punched some key hits, while Cody Michals, and Alex LeClaire each drove in runs. The Lightning drew 12 walks, and stole multiple bases, but the Bolts couldn't overcome a late onslaught by the Dragons in the bottom of the last inning, losing 6-5.

May 15, 2026

Your 8th grade Baseball Bolts split the doubleheader with the Grand Blanc East Bobcats this past Friday, winning the first game 4-3 and losing the second game by a score of 4-0.

Creek Johnson struck out 8 batters in the opener, keeping the Bobcats in their den. Maverick Taylor's single in the third scored two runs, while Charlie Leonard, Conner Kirby, Johnson and Taylor each had hits for the Bolts. Sawyer Bowker tagged and scored from third on a flyball to center in the bottom of the fourth, breaking the tie game, and sealing the deal for the Lightning.

In the nightcap, Cody Michals pitched a gem of a game, striking out 7 batters, while Henry Franckowiak hit a double to left center in the loss.

May 19, 2026

Your 8th Grade Lapeer Lightning won both games against the Lake Fenton Blue Devils Tuesday night, 15-0 and 11-1.

Henry Franckowiak took to the bump in the first game throwing an 8-strikeout NO HITTER -- just shy of throwing a perfect game.

Burning up the basepaths, the Bolts stole 13 bases, Maverick Taylor went 2 for 2 with 2 RBIs, Alex LeClaire and Conner Kirby also had 2 hits each, while Ben Fleming led the team's 14=hit barrage going 2 for 2 and batting in 4 runs, hitting a meteor back into outer space.

Franckowiak, Evan Groomes, Riley Tait, Cody Michals, Creek Johnson, and Charlie Leonard all collected hits in game 1.

Franckowiak's last game pitching in 8th grade saw him striking out 43 batters in just 21 innings, while torching opposing hitters with a 1.03 ERA for the season.

The second game didn't see much of a change as the Bolts jumped all over Lake Fenton's pitching, collecting 8 more hits, and stealing 5 more bases.

LeClaire collected 2 more doubles, while Taylor and Cody Michals each legged out triples. Jonathan Miller, Michals, and Johnson each had hits.

Taylor's last game pitching in 8th grade saw him throw 10 2/3 innings on the season, striking out 15, and ending his 8th grade career on the mound with a  phenomenal 1.31 ERA.

The Bolts had a total of 22 hits between both games, 11 of them being extra-base hits, with 3 of those being triples.

Our last double header of the season is Wednesday at 4:15pm, right here in our backyard, where your Lightning look to strike the Linden Eagles out of the sky.

May 20, 2026

Your 8th Grade Bolt Baseball team brought out the brooms in the last doubleheader of the season, beating the Linden Eagles 2-1 in the first game and 11-0 in the second game.

The Lightning literally struck first as Maverick Taylor hit a thunderous inside-the-park home run into right-center field. The Lightning would go on to score one more run and win the game behind a solid performance on the mound by Creek Johnson, who struck out 9 batters in 5 innings pitched. Taylor went 2 for 2 at the plate to lead the Bolts in that category, while Evan Groomes and Sawyer Bowker each had hits.

Conner Kirby shut down the Eagles on the bases, throwing 2 runners out at second.

The second game brought out more Bolt bats, with Henry Franckowiak going 3 for 3 with 4 runs batted in. Kirby and Cody Michals each had 2 hits, while Johnson collected another.

Charlie Leonard dealt the back breaker with a bases-loaded rocket to center that clipped the Eagles' wings. Alex LeClaire was masterful on the mound, pitching 5 innings and striking out 11 batters. Like Kirby in the first game, Evan Groomes shut down the base paths behind the plate, throwing out another stealing attempt.

Your Bolts finished the season with a 12-4-2 record, outscoring their opponents with a league-leading differential of 145-33 on the season. The team earned run average also led the league at 2.67, striking out 153 batters in 18 games played (more than any other in the league).

The Bolts also led the league in fielding percentage with .015, only commiting 4 errors on 263 chances in the field, Your LIGHTNING struck on the bases all season, with a league-leading 106 stolen bags.

Maverick Taylor led the league in batting average, slugging percentage, on-base percentage, and tied for first in runs batted in and home runs. Creek Johnson led the league in stolen bases.

On the mound, Henry Franckowiak led the league in strikeouts and earned run average.

Overall, it was a fantastic season full of fun combined with work-ethic. Spearheaded by Charlie Leonard's charisma, the last category that the Bolts took first place in the league was stealing the hearts of every spectator that came out to watch, or watched on the Game Changer app.

Thanks for a WONDERFUL SEASON, boys!
