Lapeer Community Schools is proud to announce that Jennifer Christian, a longtime district employee, has been named the new principal for Turrill Elementary School on a one-year temporary basis, effective July 1, 2025.
Jennifer is taking over for Kelly Vangel, who is retiring, effective June 30, 2025. Kelly started with LCS in August 2005 as a teacher at Maple Grove Elementary School before moving to Schickler Elementary School in 2012 where she worked as a learning coach and teacher and ultimately to Turrill as principal in 2022.
Lapeer Community Schools thanks Kelly for her years of dedicated service, for always making her students and staff the utmost priority, and for the many students and families she has influenced over the years. We wish Kelly a wonderful retirement. She will definitely be missed by all.
Mrs. Christian joined LCS in 2008 having taught varying grade levels in numerous buildings including Turrill and now serves as a district new teacher coach and MTSS coach.
In Jennifer, who is a familiar face at LCS, Turrill is getting a well-rounded, well-respected individual and leader who believes in the mission and values of the district and who will certainly make this a seamless transition for our students, staff and families.
With the year-round start date approaching quickly and the challenging financial forecast, we’ve made the decision to fill this position on a one-year temporary basis. This allows the district the opportunity to evaluate the organizational leadership structure on a long-term basis, while solidifying leadership at Turrill for next year’s important transition.
