MRS. JORDAN'S SECOND GRADE SCOOP

Welcome to Murphy School. Your second grader is well into the swing of things here at the "big school". Not only do I love them, but so does everyone else on staff!
Agenda for the School Year
Each student will have the opportunity to be my assistant for the day several times this year. They will have a number of jobs to do during their day. The most important is that they need to bring in a book to read to the class and a word of the day. The word should be something that the students can learn something from. I often try to incorporate it during the day and use it in my vocabulary in teaching. Words that are every day words that your child already knows are not appropriate words of the day.
Please read our daily newsletter with you student every day. It will increase their reading ability and vocabulary, along with informing you of important news that you need to be aware of as a parent.
We are currently working on a new project called Motor Moms . I am still looking for parents to help out twice a week for about one hour at a time. We have found that some children lack the motor skills that they should have and this in turn affects their ability to learn. Motor Moms will be working on gross motor skills using equipment provided by the Lapeer Intermediate School District. Please consider helping us out.
We are currently receiving the Flint Journal every Monday and Thursday. Monday's paper has the Mini Page which we read in class and Thursday's paper has our class publications for The Wide Awake Club.
Starting in January, our class will be invited to the Principal's Breakfast which is held for Honor Roll students. Since the second grade is not allowed to participate in the Honor Roll, Mr. Warren and I have come up with a plan that will include our class. Your student will be able to participate in the breakfast only if they have turned in all their assignments on time and they have had good behavior. I would like every student in my class be able to attend. This means that they need to be a positive Hadley-Murphy student and be responsible and respectful!
