Welcome to the Learning Coach (formerly Intervention Specialist) web page!

What is a learning coach?

A learning coach is a person who helps provide extra support for children to maximize their academic performance. This is accomplished by working together with the classroom teacher to
help assess and devise strategies for students.

What Will She Be Doing?

Mrs. Friedberg will be helping classroom teachers teach and assess students. The Michigan Literacy Progress Profile (MLPP) assessment results give teachers information about what areas the students need to work on. The goal is to bring as many students as possible up to grade level. This is accomplished through differentiated instruction, focusing on individual student needs. Students will work individually, in small groups and in the whole group throughout the day.

Who Will Work With Her?

Mrs. Friedberg will spend time in all the classrooms, helping the teachers identify and devise strategies to help struggling students in the language arts.

How Long Will Your Child Be In The Group?

Flexible grouping is the key to effective instruction. Once a child has mastered certain skills at a reading level, they will keep moving along. Frequent assessment will help determine current levels. Parent support is a big factor in reinforcing skills at home in reading and writing.

Please continue to read nightly with your children. It is one of the easiest and most valuable things you can do!!
