Lapeer Community Schools utilizes a
standards-based report card to communicate progress to
students. Report cards are provided at the conclusion of
each trimester in December, March, and June.
Standards-Based Report Card
A standards-based report card
identifies the most important skills in each grade level
and content area aligned to the state standards and
district curriculum.
Standards-based report cards are
different from traditional report cards in that there are
no averages calculated for an overall subject area.
Instead, specific skills are evaluated within each subject
to better inform parents, students and teachers about any
areas requiring additional work.
A standards-based report card
identifies how well a child is mastering each skill. In a
standards-based learning environment, teachers are better
able to identify specific student’s strengths and
weaknesses, allowing for a more informed approach to
individual student instruction.
Grading Rubrics
For each of the academic standards
listed on the report card, a detailed grading rubric is
available from the link below. These rubrics are used by
teachers to determine standards scores and are available
to parents to learn more about their child’s academic
progress. For each of the academic standards that appear
on the report card, the rubric uses specific language to
define each rating. For example, if during the 2nd
trimester of the school year a child receives a “3”
(Developing) mark in the “Counts by 10’s to 500” standard
on the 1st grade report card, a parent could
look up the rubric to find that his/her child is counting
by 10’s to 300. |
